ANNUAL 2004 WINMEC Conference, May 4-5, 2004 -  The 6th WINMEC Wireless Internet Data and Enterprise Applications conference was successful with 101 speakers (http://www.wireless.ucla.edu/2004s/program.asp) covering topics of interest to our major constituents:
- CIOs
- Carriers
- Entertainment/Media companies
- Wireless and Mobile Technology, Software and Solutions providers
- Enterprise users of Wireless/Mobile technologies and applications

KEYNOTE ADDRESS Dr. Gadh gave an invited luncheon keynote address at The Dow Jones Wire Conference in San Francisco, April 2004 on the topic of "RFID", and, was the invited keynote speaker at "X meeting of the telecom Industry, Defining the basis for a solid expansion", Title of presentation: "3G, WiFi, Wireless... satisfying the demand for mobility", Madrid, Spain, May 2004.

New RFID Course at UCLA

A new hands-on course entitled "RFID Systems: Design, Analysis and Applications" (http://wireless.ucla.edu/rfid/2004f/), is now being offered in UCLA.  We are thankful to T.I. and PDC for their contribution of readers/tags for this course.  If you are interested in donating hardware to this course or would like to request information, please contact rfid AT winmec AT ucla AT edu.

TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATIONS Research in the last couple of years at WINMEC has resulted in the development of advanced technology that includes software and hardware.  Demonstrations of the following systems were shown at the 6th WINMEC Conference and will also be shown during the upcoming RFID forum:

i. RFID @ WINMEC MIDDLEWARE -  A .NET based software framework that resides as a layer above RFID hardware in the RFID infrastructure. It allows reliable reading and writing of tags, tag data filtration and routing,  abstraction of tag and reader to make application development easier, networking of readers possible, routing data between readers and applications, and providing hooks to selected applications possible.   Further information about the RFID research is available at http://winmec.ucla.edu/rfid.

ii. REWINS - An architecture and platform that allows sensors to be connected wirelessly via a reconfigurable wireless interface for networking them to each other.  Further details are available at http://winmec.ucla.edu/rewins.

iii. MOBIME or Mobile Multimedia Environment - This project involves the development of an architecture and framework for delivery of multimedia content over wireless networks to mobile devices for applications such as enterprise collaboration and multmedia gaming.  A publication from this research project is available at: http://wireless.ucla.edu/gadh/pdf/04a.pdf

iv. mDRM - This research project involves managing Digital Rights Management of Multimedia content on Mobile Devices via wireless networks.
