Research Areas

The aim of WinRFID is to provide a seamless system which can deliver intelligent information by filtering and aggregating data collected at the edge of the RFID network from a variety of transponders through diverse readers.
   
Remote Monitor & Control systems are increasingly being used in biomedical, chem-ical, engineering, security, transportation, manufacturing, supply chain, healthcare, etc. In this research, attempt is to develop a solution of wireless monitoring and control for such industrial scenarios.
   
Mobile Internet for the Multimedia Enterprise (MobIME) research initiative investigates technology - compression schemes, digital rights, network design; content – representation, adaptation, delivery schemes; service – 2.5G, 3G, WWAN, WLAN convergence; platforms – Pocket PC, J2ME, BREW, Palm OS; hardware – multiple devices, screen sizes, memory, power; and software – architecture, frameworks, integration; for multimedia content delivery over wireless networks with particular focus on industry segments such as entertainment, gaming, design collaboration and field service.
   

Areas of Interest

Wireless Media constitutes the next generation of the Internet whereby connectivity becomes ubiquitous and through a host of other devices, not just computers. Such ubiquitous connectivity could allow two persons sitting next to each other the ability to exchange pictures between their digital cameras or even to post a picture from a camera to a web site with their own comments with the click of a few buttons.

Such ubiquitous connectivity would be personalized, would be supported on most devices that human beings carry including cell phones, cameras, PDAs, laptops, etc., and would find the best way to connect with another device (using the best mechanism between a host of connectivity protocols including WiFi, bluetooth, CDMA, GPRS, etc.).

Managing data and content through a plethora of devices and networks becomes a complex task. Research in the Wireless Media Lab centers around fundamental and applied problems associated with delivering and managing content on mobile devices connected to the Internet. Architectures, frameworks, data representations, algorithms, systems and applications are being researched and developed.
