RFID or Radio Frequency Identification Technology is being applied to a variety of applications including supply chain, logistics, shipping, inventory management, warehousing, asset management, security, brand protection, ePedigree, etc. These applications are finding their way into a variety of industries including retail, aerospace/defense, automotive, pharmaceutical, transportation, medical/healthcare, insurance/finance, entertainment and technology. Major organizations including Walmart, Target, DoD, TESCO, IBM, HP, Albertsons, Fedex, UPS, etc., have been carrying out trials over the last couple of years and have gained valuable experience in deploying applications of RFID technology.
On October 26th, 2005, UCLA-WINMEC is hosting its RFID Industry Forum at Covel Commons to discuss where industry verticals stand today with respect to actual usage, the successes and failures, how RFID projects are justified, how RFID is actually being implemented and the associated deployment issues with lessons learnt. In particular, the forum will discuss the interplay between technologies, engineering practices, mandates and business processes, and how the various industry verticals are choosing to adopt RFID. The successes and challenges of the horizontal technology of RFID as applied to applications within industries will be discussed so as to develop a common base of understanding of how RFID works across industry verticals and how it is impacting these verticals.
